The Medicine of Russia

August 23rd, 2016

I sit here typing away at a computer on the last of its battery, and I, of course, am way too lazy to get up and connect, so here we go!

First of all, the weather wasn't quite agreeable with anyone today, and me, with such a tiny umbrella, got my journal wet, so my 2 mile walk to class was not that enjoyable, especially due to the high winds!

Today was my first experience with the Russian medical system. In my personal experience it wasn't bad. It could have just been the clinic I went to, but I got really fast help. Now, the doctor's and nurses were very short and dry, but how would they not be to a foreigner who doesn't know any medical terminology? Or not well at least, I need to give myself some credit where it's due.

They gave me a blood test and an x-ray. Nothing on the blood test, but the X-rays show that I have a mild case of scoliosis. Essentially, to medicate, just start working out again. Best advice I could get. Looking at the list of gym locations sent to the students by Smolny, there is literally behind the apartment complex that I'm currently staying at, so hoorah!

On the Russian Language Intensive.... You could say it's very intense. I know what we're going over, but I just don't know the concepts to perfection, and the grammar rules of Russian have tended to dry up inside of my head after not using it for about 3 months straight. Tis the horribleness of long summers. The classes are great though, and the professors are fun.

Now, on the other hand, the medication given to me have the medication of making me sleepy, which doesn't help me due to my nocturnal schedule, so I am giving myself so much more reason to fall asleep in class. I know I shouldn't, but why shouldn't I if my body is asking for it? (It's going to even if I sleep enough. I get bored.)

On another note, we did celebrate two birthday's today since they were back to back. It was quite nice, mainly because we all got together, ate (Russian) pizza and пельмени (I can't write it in anglo letters, and refuse to.) And it was just a giant blast!

But now that I'm all caught up posting for the last few days, I'm so done. Am I making a blog or a diary? What's the difference? The fact that I can go back and edit these posts and add the pictures when I feel like it? I swear, I'm going to add them to this and make a note I added it. All because I can. Now good day sir!
