Notes from the Underground

October 8th, 2016

Today was a very nice day despite the rain. I finally got the courage to get up and out of the house on this Saturday afternoon (I wasn't quite having it with being it inside today), and finally, after 2 or 3 weeks, went to the gym on a Saturday! It's been quite a while since I've done that, since I feel the need to enter my normal routine once more.

After leaving the gym, I made myself a quick lunch of cereal and milk, since I wasn't in the mood for anything else, and my host mom is at her Dacha, and I quickly went off to go to the bank to withdraw some money.

After crossing Nevsky, something amazing happened! I ran into my fellow Juniata student Patrick, who is in Saint-Petersburg for the weekend (he is studying in Moscow for theater). We had tried to coordinate to meet, but his schedule was busy otherwise, and I believe this is just a hilarious occurence. After walking with him to his Hostel, I set back towards the bank, and went towards Dostoevsky's house.

Upon arriving to Dostoevsky's house, I placed my extremely wet coat in the coatroom to dry off (Also, it's required anyways), and went up 2 flights of stairs (what horror after leg day at the gym). There is a small hallway that leads to his apartment, and across from that door, there is another door leading to Dostoevsky's life and works. Let's enter his actual apartment first.

And now into his life and works! There are more explanations in the video, as well a constant video of me walking around and zooming in and everything!

After leaving Dostoevsky's house, I passed by the book store, and ended up buying The Prince by Niccolo Machiavelli in Russian, so... Государь. I read the first chapter (It's only a paragraph) and was surprised by how much I actually understood! And also, finding souvennir chocolate with Putin on it was worth taking a picture. No worries, I didn't buy it. I'm not spending so much money on super expensive chocolate that I can't take anywhere for a while.
