The same life as always. A little bit of this, a little bit of that, some witty comments (my thoughts within parentheses. Maybe my comments aren't so witty?). And a whole lotta love. Wilkommen, Bienvenue, Welcome, Добро Пожаловать. Let's get this little party started.
So, to begin, My little adventure actually started all the way back on September the 19th, BUT, that failed completely. To sum it up. The museum was closed, and the worker I needed at СПБГУ WAS NOT THERE. Pictures will be all over the place, and not in chronological order for the most part. I'm organizing the first few days by location. So here is СПБГУ!
Let's continue on to today! After a very fascinating dream, that had me waking up gripping my blanket in thinking that I was hugging my little brother (Really, the only thing I miss from the states right now. I spent way too much time with him). The dream the preceded that one was, let's just say, quite interesting. I wrote it down, and actually started to write about it. That's all I'm saying for now.
After finishing the first chapter, I decided to head to the gym, as per usual, and on my return, I went to the Peter and Paul Fortress (Again. It was closed the first time).
Luckily, it has a bunch of neat little museums within the island, and at the Ticket Booth, they had a 5 museum pass for 350 rubles, which took you into the Cathedral, The Commandant's House, A small room with the history of the building of the fortress, The Prison, and the Museum of Rocket Technology.
So of course, I entered into the Cathedral, which is just as beautiful as I remembered, and to the immediate right, is the room in which the last members of the Romanovs are buried. Along the church, many princess and princesses are also buried, with the Emperors and Empresses marked by the symbol of the Imperial Eagle. Alexander II and his wife are the only ones with a different slab, I believe in order to show respect to him. (Pavel I wasn't a great leader.) Of course, You have Catherine the Great, and my favorite, Peter the Great. The only members of the Romanov family not buried there are the ones who reigned before Saint Petersburg was found, and Peter II, who died in Moscow, and is buried there, and Ivan VI, who was removed from power by Catherine I and imprisoned and killed abroad.
So, after leaving the church, I went right next door to the Commandant's house, which is more to show how life was in Russia. Quite interesting. (I want a Kaftan now.) Also, it was where I noticed I didn't have my keys upon exiting, and began a frantic search in the courtyard for the next 30 minutes.
And then, of course the history of the construction of the Fortress. (Self-Explanatory)
The Trubetskoy Bastion Prison is one of my favorites, mainly because it was where Peter the Great sent his son Alexei to rot because he was against Peter's policies, and where Dostoevsky was also sent before being sent to Siberia, along with other political prisoners.
Leaving the prison, (I'm finally a free man!) I went to the Museum of Rocket Technology, and I was able to see what our comrades were working on before I was born. It was super cool, but my phone was on the brink of dying. (Too many videos.)
I then started my long return home, deciding to evade СПБГУ (I also didn't have enough time to get there and activate my student card. I was starving, and walked all the way back to my street (It's quite far to be honest). There, I went to my favorite cafe, and ordered Spanish Croquettas, a Chocolate Mocha, and a burger. (The croquettas were not croquettas. I guess my expectations for hispanic food is just too high.) Afterwards, I ordered a White Russian and a Long Island, in order to help me cope with waiting.
At 7:00 PM, I left the cafe, and after exactly 4 minutes of waiting outside the gate into the building courtyard, someone opened it and I followed them in. They seemed to be a bit worried, but I waltzed right pass them, and entered my part of the building, and sat in the stair case opposite of the door. It didn't even take 20 minutes for my host mom to arrive, who was also surprised to see me clean shaven. She laughed a bit at the fact I had forgotten my key, and let me inside.
