A Rant On The 2016 Election

November 11th, 2016

Ok, so first of all, it is 2 days after the election results officially came out and stated that Trump won. I want to congratulate him, and wish that he does well in his presidency.

Now, let's continue to what I actually want to say. I didn't vote for Trump. I didn't want him to win. I also didn't want Hillary to win. So while I am happy that Hillary lost, I am mad that Trump won. Also, if you are reading this, and you no longer want to be my friend, please tell me before you remove me from your life, because it is correct thing to do, and since I won't be back at Juniata until next August, I won't even notice that we're no longer friends.

As many of you, my friends who read this, and the professors that know me know, I voted for the Libertarian Party wherever possible. I even voted for Gary Johnson at the presidential level. But before you even tell me that I threw away my vote, and that my vote for Hillary would have helped her beat Trump in PA, that is where you are wrong.

The main problem here is, that I don't like either Trump or Clinton. I wouldn't have voted for any of them, and I never planned to, no matter what the cost is. I am not going to vote for someone with whom my views don't align with. That's why it's my vote, and my vote only. No one can change that fact. You say that Trump is a sexist, racist, homophobe that wants to deport all of the immigrants in the USA. I know that. You can also say that Hillary is our last guardian against our personal freedoms, and that with Trump, we'd lose them all. That is your opinion.

As a Libertarian, I believe that we have our freedoms from the beginning. We all have an equal slate. We have the ability to date whichever sex we wish, the ability to get paid equally and be treated equally, and the ability to go across the imaginary or physical borders if you use rivers, lakes, and mountains. I am all for the freedom of the people to do what they wish, as they wish, as long as it doesn't harm anyone else, and as long as the other person is a consenting adult, with of course, a few biological exceptions, such as anything between the family.

It is because of this freedom to do what we want, and when we want, without interfering with anyone else's rights that I voted for Gary Johnson. We don't need a government to grant us these rights, or regulate what rights we have. If you want to use a bathroom, there's no need to make it for all genders. The bathroom is where everyone is meant to be equal, since we have mostly the same biological functions. The only place where everyone else is completely equal will be in death.

This is where my problem comes in with everyone. Liberals take a Common Outcome approach to things, when we should be going with the common oppurtunity approach. Not everyone can become a Bachelor carrying citizen. If they all were, we wouldn't have the people necessary to run the everyday trades and services that we need. If everyone has something, then it tends to not mean anything, such as a high school diploma these days, and even the Bachelor degree is losing its value.

You can't just give everyone everything to enter and obtain the outcome. It ruins the whole value of the outcome, and just stops people from even wanting to further themselves. If you give them the same ease of access to enter the environment, they're going to have to work hard for it, but of course, it'll mean something more because of that hard work.

Now, a jab at Conservatives. You say you want small government, but interfering with the life of the LGBT community, the immigrants, and a religion other than christianity is not the definition of small government. A small government merely makes sure that everything that we need to make our ease of communication with each other easier (i.e. infrastructure, ease of access into the market, no monopolizing). A small government does not impose their dominant religion onto the people. That is a Theocracy. Get out of here with that. It's not needed and it doesn't work without major oppression.

Now, onto the actual election itself. As I stated, I didn't get the outcome that I wanted, and even though I knew that, I still put my voice into the system, to show them that the main two choices are not enough.

With the election of Trump, I have seen much hypocrisy coming from the left side. You told the right to remain calm and not riot or protest if Hillary came in, and accept the results graciously, but then turn around and doing the exact same thing you told the right to not do. That's your problem. You're all hypocrites. You preach about love and acceptance, but at the end of the day, if someone doesn't fit a certain model that you're looking for, and they disagree with you, you kick and yell until they stop talking and give up, thinking that you're a screeching baboon. (It's my blog, and I don't work for anyone, so I will insult and say what I want. At this point, I don't care.)

You can't become the exact thing you are fighting against, and go against the love and acceptance that you want. If you want those on the right to see your side, you need to stop calling them racists, sexists, and homophobes. Ostracizing them will only increase their hate towards you, and they become more and more of what you despise, continuing on this cycle of hate.

It's also quite remarkable, how many of the left-winged people I have met are also white. You claim to be the champion for the minorities and the poor, about how they should be included more in everything and helped, and yet you forget that they are mainly the ones who live in the cities, not the ones who live outside of them.

Having lived in a semi-small town in the Appalachians, I can honestly say, that you are completely oblivious to their needs. All you care about is how your voters in the city are reacting, since they're the ones who can make their voices heard more quickly, due to the proximity. But once reaching the poorer areas outside of the city, you stop caring, because they don't fit the profile of the people that need to be saved and propelled upwards. Only the poor minorities in the city need help, not the ones in the country because they're racist, sexist, and homophobic.

And that is exactly why Hillary lost.

You spout on about how Hillary won the popular vote, and how the Electoral College is rigged, and isn't democratic at all. Exactly, it isn't democratic. We live in a democratic republic. If we just went by popular votes, states like California and New York would always choose our president, leaving most of the regions around it without a voice. Our Electoral college was made so that all the states have an equal voice, to prevent the theft of votes, to make sure that not only one region controls the way the election goes, and to make sure that there are no states that you can just ignore.

Hillary ignored the Rust Belt for too long, and lost it to Trump. Texas was a reliably democratic state until 1976, and California was reliably republican until 1988. States switch. The reason Bush won in 2000 isn't because of Florida. It was because he managed to turn West Virginia from blue to red. No state can be ignored, and every vote will count, since each essentially holds an election to see who its electoral college voters go to.

And your wanting to get the electoral college voters to switch from Trump to Hillary? Not happening. These people are always deeply ingrained into the party, and will vote for the party, and for the candidate. That's not going to change.

Plus, removing the electoral college will bring us into the state of essentially having 2 wolves and a sheep choosing what is for dinner. The Electoral College is literally meant to stop the Tyranny of the Majority.

So, Liberals, get off your high horse, stop protesting, because you're currently making it go violent, and stop posting those twitter posts that portray "Trump's America", because face it, twitter is not a good place to go, and I can write some complete BS as well, and make you sympathize with me.

Also, back to ostracizing. Even if I voted against your candidate, it doesn't mean I don't get to voice my opinion. I have as much right to as you do. You can mention all the horrible things that have happened because "Trump's Supporters" have gone off the wall, but don't ignore the horrible things your side is also doing. All because one side is doing something, doesn't mean you can do the exact things. It doesn't forward your agenda.

Look, I hate both parties. They're a duopoly made to make sure that one or the other stays in power. But, at the end of the day, you need to stop being a kid, and go and actually do something, like put forth better candidates that will reach more people, or even advocate for third parties to actually enter the fray, since that will give more opinions out there other than the democrats and republicans.

We are in this mess because we have voted for a two party system for so long, and you just help perpetuate that. Both you conservatives and liberals. You need to get out of the black and white mindset and bring in the grey, because you all want love and acceptance. But the only way that that will happen is to get your head out of your ass, vote for someone other than the two party candidates, and stop voting for people based on gender, or because the other person is worse. Vote for who you believe in, and not for someone who you dislike.

And by the way, for all of those people saying I'm using my privilege? Get out. I'm Cuban. If anything, you're the one using your privilege by assumming a moral superiority over anyone else. PC culture is why you lost. People dislike it, because even though it's "offensive" it is still a censoring of speech. And remember, there are no safe spaces in the real world. And for those studying abroad, just remember exactly what country you're in, and they're human rights record. You willingly chose to go there, despite its government going against your beliefs. So stop crying, get involved politically, and try to change people's way of thinking without causing them to completely hate you.

This is a rant, so I got out what I wanted to say. To all those who will unfriend me, it was a pleasure knowing you, and I'm sad that you're so insecure of yourself that you can't take a different opinion. And for those in Russia, I kept you on my feed, and I'm forced to listen to what I think is your BS everyday. Try being in my shoes for once, when I'm literally the minority within the Americans. To be told that my opinion is wrong, even though you say you support the views of the others of my ethnic group is just sickening.
