The Kazan Chronicles: The Culture of Kazan

January 15th, 2017

While not exactly sleeping in, I did leave the apartment pretty late, and made my way down to the end of the street to the National Culture Center of Kazan.

Now, the way there was straightforward, but getting inside was a hassle, because the entrance is facing the river, at the top of a hill. Leg day, here I come.

The museum was interesting, and the Cap Crown of the Kazan Khans is there, but the cashier tried to charge me more for being a foreigner, despite having a Russian student ID. I ended up prevailing, since I didn't have anything other than 50's and 1000's. So 50 ruble entrance price, here I come.

They then asked if I wanted a picture with mannquins dressed up like the mongols, but I said no. They seemed in shock that a tourist didn't want a picture of himself. Maybe if I could wear the cap crown I would want one. But honestly, I just want tyo enjoy the history.

I went to Bauman for lounch, and went to several cathedrals along the way, and bought the icons of St. Grand Prince Alexander Nevsky, and St. Yuri.

In the Kremlin, I went into the Cathedral, and the museum of the Statehood of Tatarstand. It was a fun, 4 room museum, and I returned to the apartment after buying ingredients for my famous Arroz con Leche.

After another tea time break with Guzel, we went to the boardwalk. It is crazy expensive there, but it does make for good selfies.
